Rapid increases and extreme months in projections of United States high-tide flooding

Coastal locations around the United States, particularly along Atlantic coast, are experiencing recurrent flooding at high tide. Continued sea-level rise (SLR) will exacerbate issue where present, and many more begin to experience high-tide (HTF) in coming decades. Here we use established SLR scenarios thresholds demonstrate how combined effects of nodal cycle modulations tidal amplitude lead acute inflections projections future HTF. The mid-2030s, particular, may see onset rapid increases frequency HTF multiple US coastal regions. We also show annual cycles anomalies extreme seasons or months during which days cluster together. Clustering can critical frequencies occurring monthly seasonal periods one two decades prior being expected on an basis. High-tide is likely with rise. Projections States coastline, considering cycles, suggest increased event clustering time as early mid-2030s.
